WILLOW CREEK NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS
In the month of May, we celebrate Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. One celebration, not on the Calendar is Graduation Day. Several families this month, are celebrating this day with their children and young adults. Graduating from the 5th grade, 8th grade, High School or College. Each step of Life’s stairs can bring new adventures and experiences for all Graduates and families. Hopefully every Graduate makes the right choices as they move on, guided by their supporting families. As a grandmother and great grandmother, my family is celebrating all of the stages of growing up. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL GRADUATES of 2023!
Most of us who are planting veggie gardens this year have plants in the ground. Ready to reap the harvest when it’s time. Not ready for the weeding, staking, and fertilizing. But that’s part of gardening too. If you are like me. I actually enjoy each part of gardening. Even if it is hard work. It gives me a time of peace and a get away from the hassles of each day. I really enjoy eating food without all the chemicals put on them to have them last longer. I am a firm believer, that they taste better. You don’t have to have a large yard to have fresh veggies. Planting in pots sitting on the back patio is great. For plants needing support. You can use two skinny poles and using string from pole to pole. I tried it and it’s a cheap way to support cucumbers, squash or tomatoes. Planting along the side of a fence or hand railing on a patio or porch is great for plants that vine out. Going out of the box is fun and crazy. I did try to plant some squash along the side of a bush, but that was not too great. Some of the squash got way inside of the bush and made it difficult to harvest the squash, just use your imagination.
FUN STUFF: The WCNA is planning on hosting a couple of different craft fairs this summer/fall and we are looking for vendors. Anyone wanting to sell their homemade goods or vintage items, such as vinyl records, clothing, children’s toys to name a few. This is NOT a community yard sale. The first is tentatively planned for June 24th at Hillcrest Baptist Church parking lot. If you would like to set up a spot for a fee, please email us at willowcreekna1@gmail.com for more information.
HOUSEKEEPING: The WCNA treasurers have done an analysis of the funds collected through April 30, 2023, and we are behind in the contributions to the neighborhood to keep the streetlights on and run the WCNA. As you can see, from the financial statement below, the bank balance as of 4/30/23 is $4,914.45. LG&E fluctuates each month and can range from $760.00 to $790.00, more or less. There is cost associated with general running of the WCNA, such as mailing statements, maintaining the P.O. Box, maintaining the website so you can pay online instead of writing a check, filing with the Secretary of State to keep our group legit all of which are minimal in the grand scheme of things and that is to keep the streetlights on so everyone remains safe. If more money isn’t collected there won’t be enough to pay LG&E through the end of the year.
We are currently 26 donations behind where we were this time last year that equates to $1,300.00 and almost 2 months of LG&E. If you haven’t sent in your $50.00 for 2023, please take a moment to do so by check or on the website willowcreek.community. If you don’t have the entire $50.00, we will take $10.00 a month for the next 5 months, whatever you can do to help keep your community safe.
As you are aware summer is fast approaching and grass cutting season has been in full swing for well over a month. While most everyone tries to keep a tidy lawn that is not always possible with weather, work schedule, kids’ sports schedules, mower is in the shop, there are many reasons why someone isn’t mowing their grass. If you have a concern about a property, please contact the WCNA with a specific address at willowcreekna1@gmail.com many times these issues can be handled with a phone call and the WCNA may have information that you don’t. Please be patient and kind. If you need your grass mowed reach out on our Facebook page there are many wonderful people in this neighborhood that would be more than happy to mow for you every week because that’s their job or just once while you are on vacation, or your mower is in the shop.
If we haven’t already collected your email address, you can provide your email at willowcreekna1@gmail.com. We will continue to deliver the newsletter to those without email or who prefer paper every 3 months.
